American Waste Systems, Inc. (AWS) was formed in 2004 to take advantage of the growth in the Roanoke Valley of North Carolina; Roanoke Rapids, Weldon, Gaston, and Halifax County. AWS expanded into Moore County, Southern Pines, Aberdeen, Pinehurst, and Carthage in 2007. In 2009, AWS expanded into Davie County, Mocksville, Winston-Salem, Advance, Bermuda Run, and Cooleemee North Carolina through the purchase of Southern Piedmont Recycling and Waste. AWS currently provides commercial, industrial, recycling, and construction refuse services to approximately 500 businesses and governmental units in these areas.
